Citroën C4 Tonic, the swan song of the French compact

Citroën C4

After Bad times who has gone through PSA Group, it seems that the brands that form it are making up for lost time. Citroën It is experiencing a moment that could be described as rare, since its range of models does not seem to advance at the rate that Peugeot or the competition do. The French manufacturer's portfolio, with the exception of the C1, C3, C4 Cactus, C4 and Grand C4 Picasso and Jumpy (SpaceTourer) is made up of models that have a few years behind them.

El C4 It is one of the worst in the market, well, falls into the compact segment and, over time, it has lagged behind. The current generation arrived on the market in 2010 and with 7 years behind it, it has seen how Peugeot has launched a competitive 308, Seat has done the same with the new Leon and even the Korean Kia and Hyundai have screwed up with the Cee'de i30. With the situation as it is, Citroën has decided to fold the range of the C4 to announce, without saying anything, that he will soon say goodbye to the market.

Citroen C4 interior

Until now, the Citroën C4 range was made up of three finishes (Live, Live Edition and Feel Edition) and four engines (two 1.2 PureTech 110 and 130 hp petrol and two 1.6 BlueHDi 100 and 120 hp diesel). However, the bulk of sales were taken by the first two mechanics of each range, so keeping undemanded versions in production is not profitable for the brand or its accounts.

Taking into account the evolution that the model has undergone, Citroën has decided leave the C4 range in the following way. All the previous finishes disappear and only the "Tonic" ending. The engines available from now on will be two, the 1.2 PureTech 110 hp in gasoline and 1.6 BlueHDi 100 hp in diesel. Therefore, the automatic gearboxes and other elements that did exist before disappear.

For now the of this new Tonic version It has not been confirmed, but it would not be surprising if it arrived with the latest that the C4 has to offer. That is, connectivity through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, light and rain sensors and some other elements. Its price is still unknown, but if the C4 wants to sell something more than it currently does, it should be very competitive to sneak into the fight for the economic C segment.

All in all, if we want to get hold of a competitive model in terms of safety, space, quality and mechanical range, the Citroën C4 is a more than valid option. Despite having been on the market for a while, in the main aspects that should be taken into account when buying a car, it amply complies. Therefore, now is the ideal time to get a unit at a price that will surely be lower.
