Confirmed: Seat Tarraco will be the name of Seat's new D-SUV

Seat Tarraco official

The (long) wait has come to an end and we can now confirm that the final name of Seat's great SUV, with a cabin for up to seven occupants, will be Seat Tarraco. This has been confirmed by the car brand itself a few minutes ago through a press release accompanied by the teaser image we see just above. Finally, Seat Tarraco has prevailed over the other three finalist names: Alborán, Ávila and Aranda.

As you know, Seat had the intention of making the name of this future model official a few months ago, but due to the unstable situation in Catalonia they decided to postpone it. And it is that, let us remember, the choice of denomination of the new D-SUV of the Spanish brand based in Martorell was carried out by popular vote of the brand's fans under the slogan #SEATbustaNombre.

According to the brand, 146.124 fans from a total of 134 countries have participated in this last phase with four finalists. 35,52% of the votes have been for Tarraco, 28,74% for Ávila, 26,91% for Aranda and, in fourth place, the remaining 8,83% of voters had opted for Alborán. Tarraco (now Tarragona), says Seat, home and identifies with the values of the brand why "breathe culture, young spirit, history and architecture".

The D-segment SUV, the Seat Tarraco, will hit the market at the end of this year 2018; being "cousin-brother" of the Skoda Kodiaq. This new Seat vehicle and the Czech model will have similar characteristics in terms of habitability -with up to seven seats-, offroad capabilities and comfort; although we sense that the Seat will offer a somewhat more passionate and youthful design, as well as a slightly more dynamic character.

On the other hand, the Seat Tarraco, which will be produced in Germany, has wanted to "show up" in the header image that we mentioned at the beginning. We cannot confirm that the features that we appreciate in this teaser will be the ones that the production model will finally use, since probably resort to a more continuous aesthetic and similar to the Seat Ateca. We will have to wait a little longer, probably until the Geneva Motor Show - which opens on March 6 - to discover its final and complete image.
