All doubts are cleared. During the last weeks we were aware of any news regarding the successor to the Toyota GT86, which as you know will be called Toyota GR86. And it is that, with the harshness of the emissions regulations, we have already run out of some cult sports cars, such as the Nissan 400Z.
In addition, Subaru announced that the second generation of the BRZ would not reach Europe. The Subaru BRZ and the Toyota GR86 will be sister models, so that refusal of the European market made us fear that, perhaps, we would not see one or the other on our streets. But the doubt has already been cleared.
Yesterday we were at the presentation of the new Toyota GR Yaris. As you know, it is a very radical model with the Gazoo Racing seal, four-wheel drive and 261 hp. In just a few days we will tell you all about it. But regarding the GR86, the brand revealed its Toyota Gazoo Racing plan in Spain.
In that sense, in Toyota They commented that they want to create a community through GR Days events and also with GR ambassadors, who will be well-known people who will help make the product known. There will also be dealers and specialists of the GR range.
The important point is that in the section on spectrum appeared on GR Yaris, the GR Supra and the GR86, in addition to the GR Super Sport, which at the moment is only a prototype. We don't know if on purpose or not, but this way arrival is confirmed of the new sporty rear-wheel drive coupé, the Toyota GR86.
At the moment, no official data of the new model is known. The Subaru BRZ will be officially revealed next week, so we will soon know the main technical details of these two twinned models. Maybe we will find some performance changes, but it will be very close data.
Rumors have it that a boxer engine of Subaru origin will be used again, probably with 2.4 liters of displacement. The expected power is about 250 hp, being all sent to the rear train. Honestly, there is a great desire to know and each one of the aspects of the future Toyota GR86, the coupé successor to the GT86.
