Criticism of Formula 1 continues...

Stefan johansson

We have been listening to critics for a long time on the part of the fans about the sound of the current F1 single-seaters from the V6 Turbo Hybrid era, also because of the dominance of recent years in which it was not frequent to see fights for the world championship: see Ferrari era, see Brown GP era, see the Red Bull era, the Mercedes era, and now it looks like the beginning of a beginning of what could be a new Ferrari era… Add to this the current racing style of driving, where the drivers do not go flat out, but rather they have to manage tires, especially since Pirelli entered the business and also manage batteries, etc.

When we go on the road, we may think about not being aggressive in driving to save fuel and we do not usually do certain things that damage the tires because we want them to last as long as possible. We also don't have over-revving engines so that they last as long as possible, we want to do kilometers, not that the car leaves us stranded on the second trip we make. But precisely this is what racing was created for, so that drivers race and compete, doing what is not done on the street for security or management reasons. But in F1 this is not being fulfilled in recent years…

Jarno Trulli He said a few days ago that he did not like the current F1 and he understood the frustration of some drivers like Fernando Alonso, Kimi, etc., the most veteran who have tested V10, V8 single-seaters, and other more motivating times. «What have Formula 1 become? How have they diluted it? Do you realize that on Sunday in Singapore the drivers ran 12 seconds slower than the pole time? 12 seconds slower! It's stupid. Ridiculous. The essence of racing is to push every lap to the finish line, but now the drivers are forced to drive slowly, taking care of fuel consumption, saving tires,… We no longer see the limits of each driver.«.

It is true that there are already some categories in which it is necessary to manage, but F1 is the highest category of the engine and they should not do it. These criticisms are now joined by those of the Swedish pilot Stefan Johansson. The one from Sweden assures that: «Fernando Alonso is one of the few who shows his skills in the race. Formula 1 suffers from pure youth mania. I can understand Fernando's arguments (to leave). Everyone knows he's not in the position he should be in because of his gifts, but that's F1. No matter how good the driver is, if you're not in a top car, you can't get to the front. It must be very difficult to stay motivated in that context. You already know before the start of the season that you are going to be between 8th and 12th and that from time to time you will get some points. We experience in Formula 1 this mania for young drivers. It seems like everyone tries to get a 20 year old into their car as soon as possible. […] Take a look at the first races of this season. In the first two laps, more carbon fiber parts are blown up than at Brands Hatch's Formula Ford Festival.«.

My humble opinion:

Trulli has found the key with the management, and Johansson with the lack of experience and drivers who are the true heroes and not their cars the protagonists. But there is something else, I saw the FIA and Ecclestone doing nonsense for trying to recapture the excitement or limit costs. Many measures to equalize the grid what he achieved was precisely the opposite, increasing distances between the big teams and the modest ones. Now with Liberty Media I see something similar, for example with the news about Q4 and other measures that I think go nowhere. And we will see if the new adjustments to the wings to encourage overtaking take effect in 2019 or not...

I am nobody, and possibly my humble opinion is worth nothing. But if i were liberty media what I would do is not try to transform F1 into a GP2 or similar where all the cars are the same, since one of the things that I like about F1 is precisely the fights between teams and brands. For the same cars we already have other categories, and I don't know about you, but for me one of the most exciting moments is at the beginning of the year when each team presents its cars, because they are precisely different and I like to see the technical solutions of each one... If they had all standard chassis, you would strike down this emotion.

So what? Limit budgets? Neither, because it seems easy to avoid spending controls and in the end some teams are more honest and comply (they stay behind) and the big ones do tricks to continue investing more and distance themselves more... Honestly, what I would do is something similar to the WEC, specifically something like the EoT (Equivalent of Technology) and BoP (Balance of Performance). With these measures, the FIA equalizes the performance of cars of different brands, limiting or allowing other teams to increase certain parameters (aerodynamics, RPM, turbo, consumption, fuel load, available electrical energy, weights, etc.). This way they get more equality with different cars.

What do you think of an EoT/BoP for F1? Leave your comments ...

Look, I haven't been watching the WEC for a long time, but as much as they try to compensate for the technological and budgetary difference, the truth is that Toyota is running faster and further. This is like the Mercedes of the hybrid era, it had such a superior engine that it devastated 3 years and now, when the cycle is over, Ferrari is approaching, but they still, with small modifications, continue to win and work on the 2020 engine ( they must have been with him for 2 years).

What is Movistar doing with that Iñaki parasite who will be shoehorned into someone who is a cousin or nephew's brother-in-law? He does not feel the same varguity next to those three professionals as the top of a pine tree. Hello very good and long live F1 and GP motorcycles,!!
But I ask, today seeing Saiz or Leclerc on pole, why do they keep coming out, polluting if they already have pole?
Shouldn't the teams try to reduce emissions, IF THEY ALREADY HAVE THE POLE?
Anyway, it's just my opinion, I understand that you should sell the $%&% show, to the $$%& viewers, of whom I consider myself, but I don't know…I think differently…
Thank you and long live F1 and GP motorcycles….hopefully from now on they won't compete with electric models and let's all stop polluting…..
    Greetings.
