At the end of last summer we informed you that Renault was working on launching a new crossover model. We already anticipated that it would be called Renault Australia. Although there are still no images of the car completely exposed, the French firm has dropped some photographs of a camouflaged unit, as well as several important details.
The first thing to note is that this new Renault Austral will be the natural substitute for Qajar, which to tell the truth has not achieved the success that the diamond brand expected. Anyway, it's going to change the recipe quite a bit, because all versions of our market will be electrified.
The vehicle itself is finishing its development phase. In fact, Renault itself confirms that it is currently completing the test days in real conditions, where the test mules are going to travel in total 2 million kilometers distributed over 1,4 million on the circuit and the remaining 600.000 kilometers on open roads and totally real situations.
The new addition to the brand takes the new CMF-CD3 platform, with the latest driving assistants and the best configurations in terms of acoustic insulation and comfort for drivers.
As I said above, the new Renault Austral will have an electrified mechanical range. There will be a 1.3 TCe mild hybrid at 12 volts, 1.2 TCe also microhybrid but at 48 volts and a mechanic hybrid e-tech new generation. Although Renault has not wanted to comment on the performance data, it has made it clear that there will be a variant with up to 200 hp.
Last but not least, we must bear in mind that this product will contribute to production in our country, since it will be manufactured at the Renault plant in Palencia adjacent to Renault Mégane.
