The energy supply for electric cars is about to receive a boost in our country. The Railway Infrastructure Administrator (ADIF) is in the final stages of implementing its railway lines. Name with which they have baptized the charging points that will go connected to the rail network.
This initiative, which is part of its Plan to Fight Climate Change 2018-2030, tries to take advantage of the energy infrastructure of part of the Spanish railway network. This will encourage the creation of charging points, especially on intercity routes.
A much needed boost
Development electro-mobility in Spain it is very below the European average. As indicated by the Electromobility Barometer of the Spanish Association of Car and Truck Manufacturers (ANFAC). Our country is in the last position of the European ranking in this matter, with a growth of only 0,9 points, while the European average increases by 4 points.
With this evolution, the existing gap with the rest of Europe increases, since Spain reaches 15,7 points and that of the EU-14 countries reaches 28,9 points.
Railway stations in needy areas
The ADIF Railroads will allow the creation of 400 fast charging points in the first phase of the project. Several of them in areas of our geography that are especially short of supplies such as Badajoz, Castellón, Ciudad Real, Jaén, León, Lleida, Orense, Pontevedra, Salamanca, Tarragona and Toledo.
For that, ADIF will offer the zones to various entities stakeholders such as car parks, electricity companies, car manufacturers and oil companies. That they will be in charge of the necessary infrastructures to obtain the energy to supply charge to the electric vehicles.
The power that they will be able to obtain from the Spanish railway network is between 100 kW to 500 kW. With what they will have the possibility of implanting fast or super fast chargers for electric cars. On the other hand, some ADIF stations will also be able to install slow or semi-fast chargers in their car parks.
