Lotus obtains financing to develop the new LEVA platform

El development of any car, no matter how small the segment in which it falls, supposes a high economic effort for the brands. But if the model in question is to enter the world of electricity the effort is doubled or tripled. So expensive is its creation that we are seeing how the different builders are grouping and merging to join forces and minimize risks that they have to assume in the whole process.

Now, if we extrapolate this situation to smaller manufacturers, the situation becomes more complicated. Lotus is one of those who is fighting the most to carve out a niche among the electric supercar manufacturers. The Evija has been a good starting point, but it cannot remain a mere anecdote. That's why they've been working for a while on the development of a new platform, although to complete it they still needed a large sum of money.

That is why he decided to present himself to a public tender offered by the United Kingdom. The name speaks volumes about its intentions and that of its creators: the UK Low Carbon and Fuel Cell Center of Excellence (Advanced Propulsion Center – APC). In fact, it is financed by the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) dependent on the council that presides over Boris Johnson.

In order to compete in this contest Lotus has partnered with other partners of recognized prestige and with whom he has worked on other occasions. Among the best known are the supply company Sarginsons Industries or Brunel University London. Between all of them, their main objective is acceleration and innovation behind new lightweight structures for next-generation XNUMX% electric “BEV” vehicles.
