McLaren could be thinking about a model with four seats

When a brand becomes a reference in a segment its directors have a hard time redirecting it to other segments. Proof of this are the great sports car firms such as Ferrari, Porsche or McLaren. These brands have always focused their range of models on vehicles with two seats at most and when they have decided to launch a different product they have thought about it endlessly.

The clearest example is that of the Porsche Cayenne because in the German firm they did not expect their success to be what it has been. Once they broke the ice they launched with the Panamera and they did so well that as soon as they could they launched the Macan, an SUV smaller than the Cayenne. A similar story is what has happened to Ferrari with its GTC4 Lusso, as it is not its first four-seater car and it meant many hours of meditation for the brand before launching it.

A similar strategy is what they could be thinking about at McLaren. The English firm wants to expand its operations but to do so they need to put their paws in other market segments. Now money moves in the SUV's, but those responsible for the English firm they rule out getting fully into this segment. In the past they already had the McLaren F1 and its cabin had room for three passengers but from there to having an SUV there is a big step.

These days the Shanghai Motor Show is being held and Mike flewitt, CEO of McLaren, has made some very curious statements. According to the manager, sees a four-seater vehicle in the manufacturer's range, but what you don't see are four doors. Therefore, taking into account his words, we can already guess that the English house could be working to give the Panamera and GTC4Lusso a tall rival, although with a more radical approach.

According to Flewitt they are seeing what the market wants to see if the attributes of your cars can be applied to it. As long as they don't make it, the 4-seater, 2-door McLaren will be on the study table.
