Test of the Mercedes Class A 180 CDI (part III)

(Comes from Test of the Mercedes Class A 180CDI)

My particular Elk Test
Willing tickle this Class A I went to a paved esplanade on the outskirts, where you can force the situation without bothering anyone. I set up my imaginary Moose Test, with a few road markings in the area.
I began to carry out the famous test, starting from a modest speed of 60 km/h to see how things were going. After all, I didn't want the car to look like the one in the photo (first generation of Class A carrying out the test)

The result was more or less as I expected; andThe car rocks quite a bit but it reaches a point that doesn't go beyond that. I did not see anywhere the risk of overturning that so spoiled the commercial adventure of the first Class A, and the person who was with me thought the same.
In the end, we ended up performing the maneuver at more than 100 km/h and although the car was not able to stay in the lane (or I did not know how to do it), the path it followed was quite similar, so it can be said that it's pretty safe in this aspect. Yes indeed, the work of the ESP was very high, and the difference between the input speed and the output speed is very large. Almost all that speed difference was consumed by the ESP braking the wheels, and a little more by the screeching of the tires (measured 185/65 15 88T, perhaps a little scarce).

In other cars with sportier ambitions that I have forced in this test, the action of the ESP is not so noticeable, and even in some it can be done without its operation being perceived (up to approximately 80 km/h), but considering that it is a minivan with soft suspension, it has seemed satisfactory to me. Without ESP, I don't know how this suspension would hold up even at the aforementioned 80 km/h.

Conclusion
A quality minivan, especially at the level of adjustments and finishes. Due to size and interior space, it is closer to models such as the SEAT Altea and Ford Focus C-Max than to its true competitors, such as Opel Meriva. Its engine allows great performance, although the chassis is more well thought out for quiet driving. Of very healthy behavior, the price range of the Mercedes A-Class brings it closer to the larger and category minivans, but in a more contained body. If discretion and elegance is your thing, the aesthetics of Class A goes with you.

Rumors are swirling that Mercedes plans to ax the A-Class, so Mercedes prices may get more interesting than ever

I've only seen one car overturn on the street, and it was a Mercedes class A that made a turn at high speed. It happened in 2011. I will never buy that car, it's scary...
