Mercedes Concept EQG: because yes, we will see an electric G very soon

Mercedes EQG Concept

Virtually all the news that comes to us from the Munich Motor Show is related to electric vehicles. Also, Mercedes It is one of the brands that is presented the most in this space. After the Mercedes EQE, now let's talk about the striking Mercedes Concept EQG, a prototype that leaves no one indifferent.

El Class g Mercedes It is one of those mythical models so well done from the beginning that the brand only has to update it every few years. Interestingly, something only happens with off-roaders, the G-Class having been born more than 40 years ago. The fact is that it is a car closely linked to high displacement and great power thermal engines. But today there is nothing that is not electrified, and thus this prototype was born.

The Mercedes EQG will be electric, but a real SUV

The designers have wanted to maintain in this Mercedes EQG concept the traditional features of the iconic G-Class, whose last deep update came in 2018. Of course, they put their stamp to create some distinction, such as the closed and illuminated front grille, the two-tone bodywork, slightly revised optics, front and rear lighting on the roof or the box for the spare wheel also illuminated and, curiously, square in shape...

The firm of the star has not wanted to show images of the interior (for now) and it also does not leave mechanical performance data. Especially the latter is a pity, but Mercedes protects itself by stating that this EQG sits on a crossmember chassis, albeit with independent front suspension and rear rigid axle.

And it will pass tests identical to those of the G-Class

Four individually adjustable in-wheel electric motors are the key to the vehicle's unique driving properties, both on-road and off-road. Combined with a switchable transmission, which allows a "Low Range" mode to be selected, the Concept EQG also meets the high expectations for off-road driving set by G supporters.

In fact, Mercedes comments that this EQG will face the final development tests at their off-road test center same as G-Class, on a mountain whose track consists of 5,6 kilometers and slopes of up to 60 degrees. Oh, by the way, and also like its thermal engine brother, it should have a climbing ability up to 100% if the floor guarantees sufficient adherence.
