For months we have been talking a lot about a mythical brand that has just resurfaced, MG. The car firm is landing in Spain again, having reached other European markets very recently. A few minutes ago we had a press conference with those responsible for the company in Spain where they gave us many details of everything that is coming.
The first thing to note is that MG will be available in just one week, on April 1, with points of sale in Madrid, Barcelona, Girona, Palma de Mallorca and Valencia. They will soon have a point in each provincial capital. But let's get to the point, what intentions does MG have in Spain and how do they intend to gain a foothold in the market?
MG's commitment in Spain is firm, clear and powerful, opening up to all the public who want to release an electric car, or a plug-in hybrid. Its initial range consists of two SUV models, the MG ZS EV and MG EHS. Later, but also in this 2021, two other models will arrive, called MG Marvel R Electric and the familiar MG 5 Electric.
MG ZSEV
The ZS EV is a b-segment crossover fully electric that uses a 44,5 kWh battery. Thanks to a consumption of 18,6 kWh/100 km, the autonomy in the mixed cycle is 263 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle, although the brand claims that it exceeds 400 kilometers of range in urban routes. Its power is 105 kW, that is, 143 hp.
Probably the most remarkable thing is its price, which has been communicated in this first press conference. It will start at just 23.500 euros, with a complete standard equipment that we will detail below and with nothing less than 7 year warranty (including battery). Of course, this price is subject to current aid and a promotional launch discount.
MG EHS
For its part, the EHS is a plug-in hybrid. Logically, it is more capable when considering a trip, but also practical to move around the city without burning gasoline. East Plug-in hybrid combines a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor, yielding a combined power of 258 hp. By the way, the gearbox has 10 gears.
This model is larger than its range brother, offering a electrical autonomy of 52 kilometers in WLTP, and a combined fuel consumption of just 1,8 l/100 km. The battery has a capacity of 16,6 kWh.
What's new for 2021
As we mentioned before, the car company will launch another two electric cars throughout this year. The Marvel R Electric It will be the company's flagship with up to 400 kilometers of autonomy, all-wheel drive and a 0 to 100 in less than 5 seconds, using three electric motors in the SUV body.
El MG 5 model It is a family model, Station Wagon type. It will also homologate a combined cycle autonomy of close to 400 km, but it will stand out for its practicality, efficiency and boot capacity, which according to the brand will be up to 1.400 liters.
All of them loaded with standard equipment
