The fact is that they have been on the market for quite some time and, in addition, they penalize in terms of polluting emissions. On the other hand, sports cars have fewer and fewer customers. That is why we have feared its total disappearance. However, and fortunately for the most petrol heads, the Toyota GT86 will receive his generational change in 2021probably in the middle of the year.
Una leak of what appears to be the roadmap for Toyota in the short term reveals that the new GT86 will be released in 2021, during the summer. It was already confirmed that the Japanese sports car would have a generational change, but we did not know anything about the date it would arrive.
What is not clear to us is name. You already know that a couple of months ago we echoed some rumors that called the second generation as Toyota GR86. It has its logic, since the sports models of the Japanese firm are protected under the umbrella of GR, an acronym for Gazoo Racing.
There has also been talk of the platform change. The fun Japanese model will evolve in many ways and, the main one, is its base. It seems that it could resort to an adaptation of the brand TNGA modular platform, which would allow the company to save costs compared to creating an entirely new base for a very niche car.
For the rest, it will maintain the traditional sports scheme of front engine and rear propulsion. Of course, it is most likely that we forget about its 2.0 hp naturally aspirated 200-liter engine, since everything indicates that there will be a new mechanics with a little more displacement and supercharging support that would take it up to 260 hp about. Thanks to this supercharging, it will also significantly improve the engine torque, something that has been demanded of this car for a long time.
