Cupra presented a few hours ago the definitive version of its new model that will hit the market in 2024, the cupra tavascan. It is the second electric vehicle of the young spanish brand after the Born and, in turn, of the first electric SUV. The automobile firm has high hopes for this new model.
This electric SUV uses a completely new design; that is to say, it is not a bodywork inherited from any Seat nor any other Cupra model. It is true that in certain details it has features that can remind us of the Born in the front or the Formentor in the rear profile, but it is a completely independent model.
The Cupra Tavascan draws a lot of attention by design
In fact, design is one of Cupra's main assets. On the outside and on the front, it stands out above all that the logo of the brand is illuminated, something that until very recently was not allowed by European legislation. In addition, the LED headlights have a characteristic aggressive “look” with the three inner triangles. The hood shows many ribs to accentuate its dynamism, while the bumper has large mouths.
On the side we see that the designers wanted to give it a look of SUV Coupe to the Cupra Tavascan with that roof drop. In fact, the brand itself defines it that way. In this area you can also see many lines of tension, some practically flush door handles or some tires that can be up to 21 inches.
Meanwhile, in the back of the body we see that lighting once again plays a leading role. The lights are connected by a central light strip, which in this case also lights up the rear logo of the car in red. To continue with the doses of aggressiveness and dynamism, there is no lack of a very marked diffuser in the lower area.
The interior is revolutionary, highlighting the "backbone"
The exterior is really eye-catching, but the interior is even fresher. presents a very characteristic cabin, highlighting mainly the shapes of the dashboard vents, reminding us of the gills of a shark, and then the central element that joins the dashboard itself with the console, which Cupra has called spine. It contains the button for the emergency lights.
It is also surprising that he has resorted to a small digital instrument panel but, nevertheless, the main screen of the multimedia system is 15 inches nothing less. By the way, it seems that the brand has thought better of it and the "buttons" in the lower area of the screen are illuminated, not like in a current Cupra León or Formentor.
A battery and, for now, two mechanical options for this electric Cupra
Moving on to the technical section, the Cupra Tavascan is developed on the MEB platform of the Volkswagen Group, which is also used by other models of the group such as the Skoda Enyaq or the Audi Q4.
It is only available with a battery, which is 77 kWh. It accepts charging powers up to 135 kW, so in theory it could go from 10 to 80% charge in half an hour. And if we talk about autonomy, in the less powerful variant it homologates 550 km range, which are reduced to 520 kilometers in the higher performance version.
The Cupra Tavascan in finish Endurance comes with a motor on the rear axle, yielding 286 hp and 545 Nm of torque. it's the new electric motor APP550 that we presented to you a few days ago.
The option with the highest benefits is the Tavascan VZ, with a rear engine of 286 CV and another for the front axle that yields 109. Together, the electrical system develops 340 CV, providing 545 Nm of torque from the rear engine and 134 from the front. This version is capable of doing the 0 to 100 in 5,6 seconds.
The driving modes are Range, Comfort, Performance, CUPRA, Individual and Traction. There are also four different levels of regeneration when you lift your foot off the accelerator, manageable from the steering wheel paddles.
When does the Cupra Tavascan hit the streets?
The Cupra Tavascan will arrive at dealerships during the next year 2024 and their prices have not yet been announced. As a curiosity, this car will not be manufactured in Spain, but neither in Europe. The Tavascan will be produced in China, in the Hefei factory.
