From time to time extreme cases of hypermiling arrive on our screens. How far can a car travel without refueling? If we talk about Opel Insignia 1.6 CDTI ecoFLEX 136 hp, an intermediate model of the range, can reach 2.111 kilometers traveled with a single tank of diesel. This has been demonstrated by this sedan on a tour between the Swiss Alps and the North Sea.
Félix Egolf, former Airbus commander, is the one who has achieved this feat at the wheel of a completely standard Opel Insignia 1.6 CDTI with 136 hp. The approved average for this model is between 3,8 and 3,9 liters per 100, but Egolf has managed to go 2.111 kilometers with an average consumption of 3,46 liters diesel, which is 10% less than the homologation figure.
The journey began last April 6 in the Swiss town of Lucerne. From there Egolf made his way through the Black Forest to Opel's headquarters in Rüsselsheim, where he met Christian Müller, Global Vice President Powertrain Systems. At this time the car had traveled just under 429 kilometers at an average speed of 76 km/h, obtaining an average consumption of 3,2 litres.
This hypermiler adventure continued through Münster, Oldenburg and Cuxhaven, and then ended in Zurich on April 8 after passing through Hanover, Kassel and St Gallen. Egolf had long sought to overcome the 2.000 kilometer barrier in a test of this type. The Continental Eco Contact 5 tires with very low rolling resistance have been of great help in this consumption test.
In Spain the Opel Insignia 1.6 CDTI EcoFLEX 136 CV has a base price of 20.990 euros, with PIVE Plan and discounts included. The engine also produces 320 Nm of torque between 2.000 and 2.500 revolutions and is associated with a five-speed manual gearbox.

The unevenness of the Swiss Alps to the sea, I am afraid, is what has managed to achieve such autonomy
And without breaking?
on top of the crane
I'm with Diego Dieguito
We are talking about a great brand.
Wajajajjaajja, I don't know any insignia that can travel 1000km without breaking hahaajja and with what this model spends that has a very sure trick, the insignia is a crap car
You took the word out of my mouth. hehehehe
At the end of 2.111 km it broke down hahaha
Incredible 《I can't believe it》
go suck her hahahaha
At 60 in 7 speed and downhill! Go now!!!
at 80 me too and I'm sure I'll regret it
It will be downhill and with the engine off jjjjjjj
Don't you forget the most important thing? What is the capacity of the deposit, for example…
Hahaha in the crane for sure, a lot of fabric for that sewing machine !!!!
It is true that, I have seen. I was on top of a crane...
Downhill for sure….lol
Opel the worst of the worst with the years that they have been making cars they have not yet achieved a reliable engine.
Well, I have an Astra and it's going super well, 4 years now and no problem, I don't know what mania there is for this brand xD
Because it will have a 120 liter fuel tank… Sure
If the tank has a capacity of 100 liters to travel 2111 kilometers, it would have consumed about 4 liters at 100. Is it like a hybrid without being this, how do you explain it?
I'm not from opel or from any particular brand... What's more, I have an audi and I've been working as a mechanic for 15 years... And opel breaks just like mercedes, audi, bmw, peugeot, renault, and all of them…. Today's cars are manufactured for a much shorter useful life than before, otherwise companies would go bankrupt if they make cars that last 30 years... So don't talk so badly about opel because they are all the same story
Opel or gift
Shroud
Now it turns out that getting 10% less consumption than approved, downhill and at 75 km/h, is a great achievement…. Could it be that the homologation cycle is impossible to achieve if it is not in those downhill conditions and at 75 km/h? Come on, the homologation tests resemble real driving like an egg to a chestnut.
I have a first generation diesel OPEL MERIVA, with 210.000 km, and not a single fault
These idiots who speak so badly about opel have no idea about cars, as they say upstairs there is a mechanic not a rat boy like those who say about the tow truck, opels break the same or even less than infinitely more expensive brands like bmw audi or Mercedes. In fact, for my Opel it is the best value for money brand without a doubt, and the insignia is a great car. a good corsa cdti surely in this case the corsa will give fewer problems since in bmw the 320 diesel cylinders we all already know how many have come out….
In my opinion, there is no brand that breaks down more than another, rather there are drivers who damage cars more than others. The maintenance you do on the car, the time it takes to realize something is malfunctioning, the quality of the replacement you put on it, etc. I think it influences the life of the vehicle much more than the fact that it has a badge on the hood or another. Or is the reliability of a Mercedes with Renault-Dacia engines now not the same?
PS: Doing an average of 75 km/h does not imply that cruising speed, and less having entered urban centers.
