Passenger car sales October 2018: the WLTP effect is still noticeable

If four weeks ago we told you that the car sales had fallen notably in the month of September, the month of October It hasn't been much better. The clear increase in registrations in the months of July and August due to the change of homologation regulations has meant that sales have been noticeably reduced both in September and October. Luckily, at a general level throughout the year, the values ​​are positive.

In the accumulated figure for the year, growth compared to the previous year is 7,3%, thanks to more than 565.000 sales.

Although October is not a month in which car rental companies usually buy many cars, the fall in October was 23,1%, adding only 5.010 units. So far this year the value is positive, with growth of 7,2% and a total of 220.802 registrations.

Lastly, the business channel has enrolled 30.427 passenger cars in October, yielding 8,2% compared to the same month of 2017. Since 2018 began, companies have registered 352.539 cars, this data reflecting a significant increase that is neither more nor less than 17.4%. It is the channel that grew the most in the accumulated figure for the year.

Sales: Diesel or gasoline?

Taking a look at marketing depending on the type of fuel, we see that the diesel continues to deflate, while the gasoline models continue to increase their registrations. According to our source, new diesel cars (or hybrids with diesel thermal engine) they only represent 36,7% of sales, while gasoline passenger cars (or hybrids with a gasoline thermal engine) already account for 62,5% of registrations in Spain.
