Pininfarina HK GT: The new 2 horsepower 2+800 sedan presented in Geneva

We anticipated it a few days ago and finally we know the new vehicle resulting from the union of the legendary Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina, together with Hybrid Kinetic Group. The saloon with four seats and 800 horses follows the technological trend that several prototypes have presented, such as the Techrules Ren RS, at the Geneva Motor Show, use a turbine to increase its autonomy.

Because although I have not commented, Pininfarina's vehicle is fully electric. It is nothing new among the latest prototypes launched by the Italian coachbuilder, since the Hybrid Kinetic group already has vehicles that mount this technology, such as the K550, K750 and H600, two SUVs and a saloon that also have a micro turbine .

Talking about autonomy, Perhaps one of the parts that potential users of these new electric vehicles value the most, the HK GT has 20 kWh capacity batteries. This figure, today, is quite small, but thanks to the turbines, efficiency is increased, according to Hybrid Kinetic by 40%, and emissions are reduced by 80%.

The Pininfarina HK GT will feature four motors located in each of the wheels that will be coupled to a gearbox with only two speeds. Needless to say, it will have all-wheel drive, something already very common in this type of vehicle. Its weight is only 1860 kilograms, quite an achievement considering that an electric vehicle with these characteristics, for example a Tesla Model S P100D, weighs almost 400 kilos more.

“Hybrid Kinetic has chosen to cooperate with Pininfarina thanks to the set of skills and technologies in the field of sustainable mobility that we have developed over several years. » said Silvio Pietro, CEO of Pininfarina.

Something that has caught our attention are the details of the interior. Depending on the driving mode that we have selected, the interior will change color. At first glance, it may seem silly, but colors greatly influence our mood. The Pininfarina HK GT will paint its interior blue when we drive calmly, with the cruise control connected for example, while it will be dyed red when turning on Race mode.

Continuing with your interior, follows the minimalist trend that many other manufacturers have adopted. It really is a design that favors this type of electric prototypes, since it gives them a futuristic look. Your dashboard only has room for the steering wheel, which has a digital screen where we assume that it will show information about both the journey and the multimedia system.

The part of the dashboard on the passenger side hides a surprise, since it will be possible to deploy a large screen that will be able to show the infotainment system or even movies, as can be seen in the image provided by Pininfarina and the Hong Kong group.

The front seats are separated by the center console, which incorporates a touch screen just below the dashboard. This small "transmission tunnel" continues to the rear seats, which are also slanted.

"This agreement confirms the primacy of our company in the world of design, engineering and production of special vehicles at a time of great change in the motor world." added Pietro, CEO of Pininfarina.

The truth is that this year's Geneva Motor Show has been the place where we have seen quite a few prototypes of large Gran Turismo sedans, such as the new Hyundai Le Fil Rouge. Unlike the South Korean model, the Pininfarina model mounts a large gate that unfolds in the shape of a gull wing and that includes both the front and rear seats.

Finishing up with the exterior design, prevail, as in the interior of the passenger compartment, the minimalist lines and a clear touch of modernism. Something normal in the case of a prototype. At the front we find a grill with several vertical lines on the grill that end at the lateral ends with three small LEDs that will serve as headlights. This silhouette reminds me, personally, of the new Peugeot 508 presented a few days ago.

The rear, you are going to allow me but it is quite similar to the new one Mercedes-AMG GT four-door. Its silhouette is quite similar, as are the shapes of the rear glass. That coupé style has been repeated on several occasions, both in the design of the German vehicle, and in the one I previously mentioned in the Hyundai Le Fil Rouge. At the moment we do not know the price or if it will become a production vehicle, but we can take this trend as a clear commitment by manufacturers when it comes to producing electric Gran Turismo sedans.
