Restyling for the BMW 4 Series range

BMW 4 Series Restyling 2017

Launched in 2013, the name BMW 4 Series came to distinguish the coupe and cabriolet versions of the mythical mid-size sedan. Likewise, the entire range would use the even number for the sportiest cars and the odd number for the most common, more rational bodies. In this way, we could say that the BMW 4 Series today would be the BMW 3 Series Coupe and Cabrio from a few years ago.

The Premium manufacturer presented, more than a year and a half ago, a slight update for the BMW 3 Series. This update is now reflected, quite some time later, in its brother BMW 4 Series that includes the Coupe, Cabriolet, Gran Coupe variants and the desired M4. The differences will not be striking compared to the previous version, something common in the restyling of German brands, although it can also mean that “if something works, don't change it".

visible changes

The most interesting differences from the outside come in the lighting. Just like its 3 Series sibling, the BMW 4 Series has replaced xenon lighting with LED lights. In addition, the taillights also use LED lighting. They slightly change the low shape of the rear bumper and the front air intakes that are specific to the 4 Series, that is, we will not see them in the BMW 3 Series. On the other hand, they appear new body colors and new wheel designs.

In the passenger compartment, BMW claims to have provided more details in chrome and glossy black finishes, new design for the flyer, double stitching in red for the edges of the dashboard upholstery and some other details. The infotainment and navigation system Professional (which is optional) has changed its interface so that, according to the German brand, it is now organized more easily, which also improves its use. These are changes that will suit the BMW 4 Series range, but that they will not give a very refreshed image to the units of this restyling.

Dynamic

As far as dynamics are concerned, BMW claims to have improved the suspension systems For the BMW 4 Series Coupé and BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé. Suspension, both standard and M Sport suspension, has been hardened to give the vehicles an even sportier driving.

Regarding the engines We do not have any changes compared to the range that was offered in recent months. The engines will be gasoline or diesel and with blocks of four or six cylinders, all of them in line and supercharged. Versions of gasoline respond to names 420i, 430i and 440i; While the three options diesel are called 420d, 430d and 435d xDrive. In the case of the Series 4 Gran Coupé bodywork, one more mechanic must be added to the diesel range, the 418d.
