Will we see fully electric Seat Cupra models? Everything seems to indicate that…

Seat Leon Cupra 2017

There is no doubt that the The automotive sector prepares for a major change; a change that, on the other hand, can already be seen in our streets. We are not talking on this occasion about the high demand for crossover and SUV models, but about the full or partial electrification of propulsion systems. Even in supercars we find hybrid cars. Proof of this is the very Ferrari LaFerrari or the new Honda NSX; And seeing the sports plane, what do you think of the more than 600 CV that Tesla extracts?

But no, do not think that they are going to be just sporadic cases, since electric or hybrid propulsion systems are increasingly seen on our streets. According to some recent statements by Matthias Rabe, head of R&D for the Spanish brand Seat, the future models with initials Cupra (the most sporty of the firm from Martorell) could have electrified variants. Have you been checked? Get used to it, because it won't be the only one and there are already some hybrid sports cars.

Rabe declared to our companions of Auto Express that “Cupra is extremely important to us and I am totally sure that we will see Cupra versions in our electric cars”. He himself added that “electric cars have fantastic performance and acceleration. Cupra and electrification is not a contradiction.

We do not know, although we do not believe it, if Seat has in its short-term plans to launch models with the fully electric Cupra "designation of origin"; but we do know that in 2019 we will see the first Seat EV car, which will be developed on the new MEB platform. Rabe would also have confirmed to Auto Express who are looking for one autonomy of about 500 kilometers, so it could be used as the only car at home, without the need to have another car for longer journeys.

For its part, we will also see hybrids soon. Rabe stated the following in this regard: "We see more potential in 100% electric vehicles, but we also see improvements in vehicles with combustion engines and potential in hybrids and plug-in hybrids."

That said, we better get used to electrified cars. The future is near and, although you like it more or less, in the coming years mobility will change towards electrification.

Well, as the autonomy is only 160 kilometers (theoretical) as in the electric mii seat with more benefits, and less battery power, the autonomy in a few kilometers will have been exhausted
