Skoda Scala: Restyling arrives in 2023 to improve its "discreet" sales

Skoda Scala Edition S by ABT

Comparisons are odious but necessary in certain situations. The Volkswagen Group is the leader in the compact segment thanks to its wide range. We have the Audi 3, the Seat León and the Volkswagen Golf. Together they represent an important part of the sales of this segment on the European continent. But they also have in their range the skoda scala, one of the lesser known members of the niche but no less valid for that. Sounds like…?

It can, but it will not be because you see many in the streets. The same thing happens to the Scala as to the Fiat Tipo. They are models that bet on logic rather than fanaticism with logical and reasonable finishes and technologies. The problem they face is simple: customers are looking for something else and neither one nor the other gives it. Well, to prevent it from sinking further down the sales charts the Czech house is going to apply a subtle restyling shortly. And now it's testing...

The Skoda Scala 2023 will modify part of the front, rear and interior finishes...

Thanks to the guys from Auto Express we have been able to see the first spy photos of the renewed Skoda Scala. Camouflage, as is the norm, occupies the parts of the body that will be subject to change. Hence, the front and part of the rear look "opaque" to prevent us from knowing their news ahead of time. In any case, it is easy to assume a front with optics, grille and bumpers close to those of his brothers Octavia and Karoq and Kodiaq.

In the rear there will also be changes. As we can see the scalpel will go through the optics, the bumper and perhaps a roof spoiler. Behind closed doors it will remain more or less faithful to the style that we already know. Is that touch screens will remain 8 and 9,2 inches but the infotainment system will be updated. In a second place, they will touch up, minimally, the instrument panel and some of the dashboard trims.

Finally, to give a more racing touch, new upholstery and linings will arrive. Where there won't be, or should be big changes, is in the mechanical offer. Therefore, the 1.0 TSI and 1.5 TSI blocks are not expected to be upgraded or hybridized with any kind of secondary 12 or 48 volt mains. This is because under your skin is the Volkswagen Group MQB-A0 base, making it more "basic" than its group brethren.

Regarding the diesel offer, those of Auto Express say that the 1.6 TDI block will remain in the range. At the moment it is unknown, although we should know something more in a few weeks or months. At least if his debut is scheduled for the first bars of the year 2023. Will it serve to take flight...? We'll see…
