Subaru Impreza 2.0R Sport test (part II and last)

Comes from Test Subaru Impreza 2.0R Sport

It may not fit through the eyes... but it's pretty good

Interior and habitability

The first thing that catches the attention of interior of the Subaru Impreza is that it seems to have been designed a decade ago. The design, the colors and the materials have little to do with the cars that are now on the market. Despite a design, let's say "not very modern", the truth is that everything is in its place, fits perfectly and does not feel bad, that is, the visual impression is poor but really it's pretty good.

Good quality of settings

El driving position is well solved and everything is within reach of the driver. I especially like the handling of the radio (with a “retro” look too) and the monozone climate, very intuitive.
The position of the seat, steering wheel and pedals is good but I miss a firmer left footrest and a seat with lumbar adjustment. The feel of all the controls (steering, gears, brake, clutch, etc.) correspond to that of a sports car…as it should be.

The seats are less "radical" than they seem

Back more of the same: spacious for two people, good materials and bland design. The central tunnel is very bulky because of the all-wheel drive and prevents a third occupant from traveling comfortably.

The trunk is also limited by all-wheel drive. Still it is wide enough (although not deep) and can be used well. It includes a retractable luggage cover curtain that makes it easy to fill it to the brim (such a comfortable curtain is rare in a sedan, they usually come with a tray)

Driving and comfort

As soon as we sit down and press the start button (Keyless entry and start are standard on Sport) the needles completely go through the scales of the control panel, inviting us to start it. This is a car for people who enjoy driving, since direction and especially damping accompany.

Practical curtain in the boot

If I had to take something from the car, it would be the damping: soft enough to be comfortable and easy to drive, yet hard enough when riding aggressively.
The most negative point of the car is the performance of its engine. For a 2-liter 150CV engine, it pushes rather little, being widely surpassed by cars of similar weight and power (especially the new low-displacement and turbo engines). LThe recoveries are very poor and the consumption does not follow either

The chassis is effective, with a very "light" rear with a certain tendency to close the line. At first it "scares" a bit but when we get the hang of it we see that it is easy to take it where we want and that if we go too far when we pick up the gas the car closes the line. ESP is highly recommended on this car for having such a lively rear end.

The brakes are powerful and hold up relatively well.yes I say relatively because since the engine doesn't run much they don't have any problems, but if they are pushed down hills “with a knife” they quickly start to smoke, which makes me doubt their resistance.

Consumption

The consumption of this car is one of the highest I've seen based on its performance. At a constant speed it is moderate-high (on the motorway, as soon as we exceed the legal limit, it goes above 8 litres/100 km). Going down from 7 litres/100km is very difficult while a consumption around 10 litres/100km in medium and mixed use will be the norm. Driving to the limit on mountain roads, it exceeds 20 liters, which is a lot for how little it runs.

Price and equipment

El Subaru Impreza price is high in any of its versions. Part of €16.000 to €43.000. Its equipment is structured in finishes so that we cannot choose to mount extras. That is, if we want any of the elements in particular, we will necessarily have to acquire that version, even if we do not want any more (as in the Honda CR-Z). Fortunately the equipment is extensive although there are strange details such as that ESP cannot be equipped on the most basic models.

The Sport finish corresponding to this version is around €23.000 and brings 6 airbags, ESP, all-wheel drive and reduction gear, sports seats, Xenon headlights, 17″ wheels, CD-Mp3 with 6 CD changer, cruise control, keyless opening and starting, multifunction screen, etc.

Assessment

Buying a Subaru Impreza makes a lot of sense if you want a true all-wheel drive car. (not one with a Haldex-type diff) but we don't need an off-roader. The Subaru's traction capacity on slippery surfaces (sand, mud, snow, etc.) is excellent (I've only tried it on the first two) and it doesn't have the problems of an off-roader (driving feel, weight, maneuverability, etc.) .

Instead, if what you want is a sedan to travel, the Subaru Impreza does not position itself well against the competition, unless it dazzles us with its good driving feel. For the same price we have models from the competition that surpass them in performance, consumption and equipment but… they do not have a 4×4, a reduction gear, or that touch that Subaru brings to its cars.

Let's see, I wanted to know if your comment that it doesn't run!! is it because you are comparing it with the old impreza or is it really like that, I tell you, because I am seriously thinking of buying one! actually it was between diesel or gasoline, both of 150 hp. but how are you putting it I don't know, but it doesn't pull the hair that stays on the slopes if you're very loaded or not kicked?
I don't know, you don't want to tell me!

Man, well, I say that it does not go as one would expect from a car with a 150 hp engine. If I compare it with the old ones, it runs more or less the same, since the atmospheric versions of the previous Impreza were not missiles, far from it. Of course, Diesel is much better, although of course, you have the last word.
In your place I went to a dealer, almost certainly you can try it ... and judge for yourself.

    Regards!

Thank you very much for your answer! In fact, I've changed my mind! I'm looking at the 2009 wrx. Today I tried one of the 2009 registered in March with 60.000km, revision in the subaru, in good condition! It doesn't seem like he's stepped on it much..
I would like to know your opinion in relation to what revisions, parts would I have to do in the next km? Do you think many km pa time? Do you think it's a good buy/price?
thank you very much, it is an important decision
