As some suspected when Tesla released the new version of the Model 3, this electric car is achieving acceleration times consistently better than advertised. Elon Musk himself advanced an acceleration for the Performance version of 3,5 seconds in the 0 to 96 km/h, but that figure have dropped to 3,3 seconds according to users.
The first measurements of the Model 3 Performance were recorded frame by frame, in the videos with which the owners recorded their homemade acceleration tests. However, the latest data obtained comes from much more serious tracking devices such as the Vbox or the Dragy. Can you see her impressive acceleration figure achieved by Danilo Reyes in his channel from YouTube, although as you can see below it is not the only one.
This is how they measured the acceleration of the Model 3 Performance
The exact figures achieved by this owner with his Model 3 Performance are 3,28 seconds to 0 mph (96 to 0 km/h) and 60 seconds to complete the quarter mile from a standstill. The car had the inch wheels 18 instead of the 20s and with the tires that come standard with the Performance package: some Michelin Primacy MXM4 which had previously been heated to improve its adherence. This practice is very common when making these acceleration measurements. It is also remarkable that batteries were at 83% capacity when doing the test.
Youtuber DÆrik also installed a Vbox in his Model 3 Performance and during tests he managed to accelerate from 0 to 96 km/h in 3,3 seconds. So that the performance of this car has been confirmed.
Official figures below reality
It's not the first time that Tesla has been modest when it comes to announcing the official features of its cars. At the beginning of this year, the owner of a Tesla Model 3 rear-wheel drive (instead of four wheels) recorded an acceleration of 4,6 seconds in the same type of test, instead of the 5,1 seconds that the brand advertised.
