Test Hyundai Tucson 1.6 T-GDI 150 CV 48V Tecno (with video)

The Hyundai Tucson has sneaked into the top of the monthly sales ranking in Spain in recent years. With this weight on the shoulders of the brand, a new generation must have the goal of continuing to be at least as successful. And it has little in common with the previous one. It changes the design, the platform and presents important novelties in the equipment and in the range of engines. We start the test Hyundai Tucson 1.6 T-GDI 150 HP 48V, a unit that gives us Maven and Sons at your Hyundai dealer in Badajoz.

As I told you, the brand presents a Tucson that has little to do with the previous one. The body measures 4,50 meters in length, 1,87 m in width and 1,65 m in height, so it surpasses the previous one in all dimensions. The battle also grows, now it measures 2,68 meters. With this, Hyundai says that now we will be more comfortable in its rear rows, although we will talk about this section later.

His aesthetic changes radically. This new Exterior design Hyundai defines it as "Parametric Dynamics", a new way of understanding the aesthetics of its cars that has as its main characteristics new very marked edges intertwined with angular lines. And the truth is that it becomes one of the most striking SUV-C in the segment.

the most striking

Undoubtedly, the area that most impresses at first sight and that has received the most comments after being presented is its grille, a radiator grille that integrates the daytime running lights and that can remind us of other models such as the Mercedes EQC. In the case of Stuttgart, the optical group main is also integrated into it, something that the South Korean does not find the low beam and long outside the contour of the grill.

The large air intakes continue to emphasize this new character, a style that cares with nerves on the hood and in the profile. The side is beefy, with wheel arches that show protections with straight cuts and a rising belt line. The resource of the last pillar is striking, in a silver tone and a line that seems to highlight the small spoiler and the fall of the rear window. Its wheels, which in this case are 18 inches, start at 17 inches and go up to 19 inches.

As for its rear, despite being overshadowed by the front, it is also another of the keys to the whole with this very expressive and original optical group. The pilots are joined by a beam of light and in the corners they seem to show the shape of claws. The emblem is embedded in the rear window and bumper is aggressive due to its shapes and the false diffuser.

El trunk, for its part, with an electric gate, gives us access to a trunk that also grows, depending on its capacity depending on the version. We will have a volume from 546 to 620 liters. Ours, with a 48V gasoline engine, has about 577 liters, a unit that also has a Tecno finish.

Jump in perceived quality

If the exterior has changed radically, the interior has not reached an intermediate point either. The perceived quality is key in the cabin, improving at this point based on exposed technology, a pleasant touch in materials from higher areas and different tones. The instrumentation is now completely new and instead of seeing it inside a cavity it is shown with a 10,25 inch in the style of the Mercedes MBUX.

In the central console there is a screen, also 10,25 inches, and we can use it to manage various functions, such as the multimedia system. screen, drive tactile, it's fast, and I would only lower the grade for having some somewhat confusing submenus. The rest, by image and speed, is in a good place. By the way, the multimedia system is called Bluelink and is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Most botones have disappeared, but not all. The peculiarity is that they are shown in a tactile way, cleaning the area and making it more modern. I join practically all my colleagues who prefer that the touch screen does not bring together all the functions and leave the air conditioning for button control, among other things. Hyundai meets it and therefore takes another positive point. At least on my part.

Before starting I can tell you that I have sat in every seat in this Hyundai Tucson and the truth is that most of the space It has been very correct. In the first row this is something usual, it does not always happen in the second. In this case, the amplitude is outstanding, not to mention that we even have heated rear seats. There's plenty of head and knee room, and an adult could ride in the third seat. Of course, the fluffy is more uncomfortable.

microhybrid

The mechanical range of Hyundai Tucson 2021 It has engines of up to 230 horsepower thanks to its hybrid version. In our case, we tried the variant 1.6 T-GDI with 150 hp and 250 Nm of torque with a 48V system, a system governed by a six-speed manual gearbox that transmits power to the asphalt through front-wheel drive. With this, the variant signs a 0-100 km / h in about 10,3 seconds and a maximum speed of 189 km / h. Its average consumption is 6,5 l/100 km and its CO2 emissions are 148 g/km.

Equipped with 48V technology, this Tucson receives the eco label, one of the keys to microhybrids. And it is that in practice they do not differ too much from a normal version. Yes, it is true, they are smoother when starting and improve consumption, also making the combustion engine work at different times in a more pleasant and comfortable way. But, in general terms, the consumption will not drop significantly and the way of driving them is the same.

Leaving this matter parked for a few lines, I can tell you that the first kilometers with the Hyundai Tucson have left me with the feeling that I was in another SUV. with his post of elevated driving and having shot little with it, I did not notice an important change with respect to the previous generation. But yes, there is.

The South Korean has won in aplomb, and so could end the paragraph. And it is that it feels more mature, as if it had slipped into a lower segment to which it did not belong. It rolls comfortably, very settled and improves in the dynamic section. It has a chassis that is less afraid of turns, always taking into account the type of car it is.

So much so, that with this mechanic we will not get to take advantage of all the dynamic power what can it give us The energy is enough to overtake and devour kilometers without blinking, but if we are looking for something else we will have to look for the 180 hp version. An option also of 48V that notably improves the numbers penalizing, of course, the consumption.

Although, although it is true, that it has driving modes with which we can adapt our driving style to the vehicle. We will have the Sport, Normal and Eco option, reading different engine maps so that our car becomes a more "vigorous" SUV or more committed to consumption. The suspension also gets firmer, something rear-row passengers will appreciate by improving the body roll. The direction, the section to which I would give the worst grade, can also be refined.

And despite improvements in on-road poise, it's no more uncomfortable to ride off-road than the last generation. I have rolled in tracks and terrain of low difficulty And I haven't had any major problems with it. Of course, as I say, it has been nothing more than a sweet walk through the countryside.

In the section consumptionsAs we mentioned in the previous lines, the brand officially says that its Tucson spends 6,5 l/100 km on this version. on average In our test the final figure after more than 300 km. it was 7,5 l/100 km. On secondary roads, at 90 km/h and after about 150 km, consumption was 5,1 l/100 km. The figures are not bad at all, but it should be noted that they have been achieved in Eco mode and being very benevolent with the pedal. If we neglect ourselves or carry out a more sporty driving, they will increase considerably.
