Peugeot 508 1.6 e-HDi Allure CMP test (I): Range

The Peugeot 508 is the latest Peugeot in the D segment. It has been in the market for just over a year taking the place of 407 and at the same time of 607, by placing itself, due to dimensions and finishes, in an intermediate level. In ActualidadMotor We have always found it to be an interesting sedan with an attractive design, which is why we have lived for a week with a Peugeot 508 sedan equipped with the entry-level diesel engine, a 1.6 112CV, associated with a piloted manual gearbox and with the full Allure trim level.

In future articles I will tell you my feelings about the car, which you will see that in general terms it does not disappoint, but today we will talk in a slightly more general way about the range of this saloon (and family) reviewing its engines, finishes and prices. Note first of all that the 112CV engine that we have tested has been "replaced" by an identical 115CV, the differences are negligible and everything we talk about throughout the test will be fully applicable to the 115CV diesel.

The 508 is sold with two bodies, one four-door and one SW (Station Wagon), plus crossover-style hybrid RXH starting on SW. The sedan body measures 4792mm long, 1853mm wide, and 1456mm high, while the SW is slightly longer (4813mm) and taller (1476mm). The trunk of the sedan is 475 liters, while that of the family member is superior, measuring 518 litres.

In both bodies are offered two gasoline engines, which are a naturally aspirated 1.6CV 120 associated with a six-speed manual gearbox and a 1.6CV turbocharged 156 developed by BMW-PSA that can be associated with a six-speed manual gearbox or an automatic with the same number of ratios.

If we opted for diesel mechanics, we would have the 1.6CV 115 HDi engine with a five-speed manual gearbox as the access engine, or failing that, a six-speed piloted one (with Start&Stop, which is the one we have tested), followed by a 2.0CV 140 diesel and 160CV six-speed manuals (possibility of automatic transmission for the most powerful). Above we find a 2.2CV 204 associated only with a traditional six-speed automatic gearbox. The availability of the engines is linked to the different equipment, as we will now see.

Access, Active, Allure and GT These are the four finishes that complete the catalog of this French sedan. The lowest only allows you to opt for the naturally aspirated gasoline engine or the 112CV diesel with a five-speed manual gearbox. The Active lets us choose between the manual or piloted 1.6 diesel (in SW only piloted) and the 2.0CV 140, while in gasoline only the interesting turbocharged engine with manual gearbox is available. The Allure Finish, the one in our test unit, can go hand in hand with the 1.6 diesel engine with a robotic gearbox, the 140CV and the 160 with a manual or automatic gearbox, in gasoline it has the turbocharged block with the two available transmissions. To conclude the GT finish, it is offered only with the 204CV diesel engine and automatic gearbox. Lastly, the hybrid, the RXH, which combines the 160CV diesel block with an electric motor that supports the rear axle and achieves 200CV. This set is associated with a piloted change and a specific termination.

In case we want to know more in detail what each finish equips, I leave you with the list where the most interesting features appear.

If we get into security matters we will see that the 508 does not lack anything of series and that has the deserved five EuroNcap stars with excellent scores in protection of adults and children and assistance.

We can already say that we know how the range of this model is structured, which everyone, to a greater or lesser extent, finds attractive. Stay tuned for the second part of the test, where we will see what this 508 is like inside and out, and then, in the third installment, we will check how the 508 behaves dynamically sedan with the 1.6CV 112 HDi engine with controlled gearbox and the balanced Allure equipment level.

Do not miss it!
