The union between the already extinct groups FCA and PSA is going to give a lot to talk about in the coming months. And not only because they have formed the fourth largest car manufacturer in the world, but because of the plans they are making. The first and most obvious has to do with the cost savings and implementation of scale economics. As you can imagine, it is to achieve a greater common good: to be more profitable and to face the electrification of its ranges.
It seemed like a chimera since many said that so many brands would end up overlapping. However, the magical hand of Carlos Tavares is making a giant like Stellantis start walking from him without breaking his feet. And hence the surprises that are leaving us. The last one is quite important because everything indicates that they have been encouraged to bring back a mythical model: the Fiat Topolino. Do you remember him? It seems that the revived Fiat Topolino would release an interesting “cabrio” version…
For now the resurrection of the legendary Fiat Topolino is not official. However, there are several media that have echoed this news and, to be honest, we can take them for granted. According to Automotive News, the Italian house would have allied with Citroen for use as base of little Ami. And although it sounds crazy, it has all the logic in the world, especially since it would follow the spiritual and commercial path (not aesthetic) of the original Topolino.
In fact, the Topolino is how the original Fiat 500 was known that was sold between the years 1936 to 1955. In case you did not know, this denomination means little mouse in Italian and it goes wonderfully to the concept in which Fiat would be working. In fact, these sources confirm that it would have already been presented to several dealers. Of course, it would not have much to do with its commoner brothers from Citroën and Opel since would premiere until cabrio version.
Hence, it has been described as more refined, although a vehicle of this type can hardly be more "posh". In any case, the reborn Topolino would be manufactured in the plant that Stellantis has in Kenitra (Morocco) and that has seen its production capacity increased to 4 units. We will have to see how this project evolves, but it looks like will debut at any time in the next financial year 2023.
To speak for now of markets and sales volumes is difficult. Everything points to Italy will be one of the key countries for its sale, although it could also reach Spain and others where the price of electric vehicles has to be more restrained.
