The Seat León and Arona already leave the factory that VAG has in Algeria

Seat León Arona factory Algeria

At the beginning of the year we told you that Seat would assemble, through the CKD system, the León y Arona en Algeria. With this strategic move, the Spanish firm of the Grupo Volkswagen improves its position in a market in which it seems to feel comfortable, since its sales are going at a good pace. When the German consortium confirmed this news, it did not give a specific date from which the Spanish models would leave the assembly line.

At that time they simply limited themselves to communicating that at some point in the second semester of the year. Well, it hasn't taken long for the official start of this temporary period, so that the first units of both models are already coming off the assembly line that the Grupo Volkswagen has in the factory Relizane (Algeria).

As reported since Seat

"the Arona and León aspire to follow in the footsteps of Ibiza's success, and, like this model, both are manufactured at the Martorell plant and their final assembly for the Algerian market is now carried out at the Relizane factory”

As stated by the Commercial Vice President of SeatWayne Griffiths

“To promote the globalization strategy, it is essential to assemble models outside of Europe, as other European car manufacturers do” […] “Algeria is our first step in this direction since it is one of the main markets in the region and for Seat it is a clear growth opportunity, as are the rest of the North African countries, where SEAT has the responsibility of leading the expansion of the Grupo Volkswagen. With the Arona and the León we expand the range of products we offer in Algeria and this will allow us to consolidate our position in this country. We are and we want to continue to be one of the fastest growing brands in Europe and, at the same time, grow globally”

If we check the numbers of the Ibiza (a model that Seat has already assembled in Algeria since last year), we can see how its sales have risen to 11.400 units delivered in the first half of the year. Thanks to this, the Algerian market has become one of the main ones for the Spanish urban market, and therefore, the Asian country is of vital importance for its growth in sales worldwide.

For now, it is not the only Eastern country in which the Spanish firm is going to enter, since the Grupo Volkswagen has already laid out the red carpet in China.
