Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) next to Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Buemi y Kazuki Nakajima has been crowned the winner in the LMP1 Hybrid category of the 86th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans that took place this past weekend (you can read our chronicle here). To reach this situation, the Japanese firm has had to fight hard, since there have been several years that have been at the gates of achieving the victory.

We could see the experience that they have accumulated over all these years at the last Tokyo Motor Show. In the, Toyota presented the GR Super Sport Concept hybrid, a vehicle that collected the know-how that TGR had amassed throughout its participation in the WEC Endurance World Championship. It is equipped with the system Toyota Hybrid System-Racing (THS-R) and a gasoline block with double turbocharger and V6 configuration that yields a combined power of 1.000 CV.

Its exterior design is also inspired by the Toyota TS050 HYBRID with which the brand has disputed the 24 Hours of Le Mans this year. All in all, to demonstrate what the Japanese firm is capable of, they have exhibited in the Fan Village that TGR had set up at the Le Sarthe Circuit on GR Super Sport Concept. Shortly after they have confirmed that they are developing a version approved for driving on the street that could be on the market at the end of next year or the beginning of 2020.

From reaching the street and becoming a palpable reality, the GR Super Sport Concept would place at the forefront of technology Toyota. With this movement, it will catch up to the technological level of such important rivals as Mercedes-Benz with the AMG Project One or the company itself. Aston Martin with the Valkyrie. We will have to wait for new technical details of the model and its final mechanical configuration to be announced. In any case, we bet that its production will be very limited and will have a price that is not very accessible.
