Toyota RAV4 GR Sport: “Sportsmanship” invades its SUV soul…

Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid GR SPORT 3

Like it or not, the Nissan Qashqai, the creator of the SUV segment is the Toyota RAV4. The Japanese firm launched this model on the market almost thirty years ago (in 1994) and since then it has evolved exponentially. So much so that it has ceased to be that light vehicle that was so much fun in country driving. But now it offers other attributes and reasons for purchase, such as a hybrid range that many of their fierce rivals already wanted for themselves...

The latest novelty presented by the brand, for Europe, is the Toyota RAV4 GR Sport. Perhaps you don't know it, or you simply ignore it, but the GRMN sports versions are divided into three levels. There is GRMN as the sportiest, only in Yaris, GR as intermediate in Corolla or Supra and then there is GR Sport as another finish with an aesthetic appearance. And now the RAV4 takes advantage of it to look more warrior than ever. You like…?

The Toyota RAV4 GR Sport will be available in Europe in the fourth quarter of 2022…

As you can see in the photos, the Toyota RAV4 GR Sport does not vary its physiognomy excessively compared to the rest of its range brothers. Among the new design elements to be highlighted, we can point out that the wheel arches are dressed in piano black trim. This material extends to the side sills and the trunk lid and bumper moldings. In addition the spoiler that goes over the rear window varies the tone if the hybrid or the PHEV is chosen.

Nor can we ignore others that, although subtle, are also new. For example, the bezels of the anti-fog optics or the "GR" logos. As a curiosity, it is the first model of the brand to mount alloy wheels created by a new “ultra-precise line cutting” technique. They're 19-inch and have a piano black finish with fine bright machined stripe detailing that "adds emphasis to its strong five-double-spoke design."

From inside the evolution of the Toyota RAV4 GR Sport is subtle. The front seats are upholstered combining suede with synthetic leather on the headrests. They are more sporty and the "GR" logo corroborates this on the headrests combined with contrasting silver stitching on seats, gear lever and steering wheel. The detail that finishes off the set are the bronze moldings that go on the doors or steering wheel together with the "GR" logo.

Regarding its technique few changes because the RAV4 GR Sport is available with all the mechanics of its range. In fact, they are limited to one suspension with harder springs and sport-tuned shock absorbers. According to Toyota "they will offer a more attractive driving experience." Still, if you like it and want one, it will be available across Europe in a matter of days or weeks…
