It's official, Volkswagen will bring the ID Buzz concept to the market

Volkswagen Id-Buzz Concept

The Group Volkswagen needs to redeem its sins, regarding the Dieselgate, as soon as possible. Debugging the responsibilities of this macro case of falsehood in the emissions of their diesel engines is going to cost them a lot of money. Therefore, the next steps they take for their future must be accurate. This future, as we already know, is based on a wide and complete range of electric vehicles and among them we will have some surprise.

The most nostalgic, or veterans, will remember the legendary Volkswagen T1 and what it represented for them. This model has its direct heir in the Multivan, however it does not have the charisma that the original model had. As a temporary remedy, the German conglomerate pulled the ID Buzz Concept prototype and with it the prayers of fans of the model could come true.

This model brings to the present the design lines that made the T1 iconic although everything else has nothing to do with it. The first thing that changes is its powertrain, as the Volkswagen Group presented it as an electric van that had enough technology to drive autonomously.

Volkswagen ID Buzz Concept

If we pay attention to the statements made by Herbert Diess, President of Volkswagen, the German conglomerate would have decided to bring the ID Buzz Concept prototype to production. The reason they would have given for this to happen is to pay homage to the mythical T1 and T2 and at the same time open a new niche in the company's range of commercial vehicles.

With the reissue of this model they would have an aspirational cut model, being able to obtain a higher revenue for each unit sold. The keys that must turn the ID Buzz Concept into a successful model are in the retro design, offer a versatile and familiar interior and a completely electric motorization. The base on which they will achieve these objectives will be the ultra modern and light modular platform for electric vehicles of the group, the MEB.

With this platform and the placement under the floor of the batteries the interior habitability of the ID Buzz Concept would be gigantic. In this way, it would also have this incentive for customers, since it would have a short front end and a maximum forward driving position, like the one that the T1 had. It will be necessary to see how the production model is, but unless the basic lines of the design are respected and the interior modularity is up to the task, the Volkswagen Group will have a new super sales in its model range.

Nostalgia sells gentlemen, and although the Beetle has never been able to outsell the first Beetle the ID Buzz Concept si could achieve this milestone.
