Enjoy this Volvo 850R exceeding 280 km/h on the Autobahn

It's not that when we think of sports cars it's Volvo the first (or fifth) brand that comes to mind. However, he also demonstrated several decades ago that they were capable of producing performance cars. One of them was the Volvo 850R, a large car with a not too racing appearance, but capable of leaving behind many conceited cars.

In the video that we leave you below you can see a Volvo 850 R rolling on the Autobahn at a “good pace”. Logically, and as you will discover as soon as you hit the play button, it is not a serial unit. It takes a good number of changes that, although they are not specified too much, by the sound it makes it clear that it does not have a conventional turbo.

The 850 R resorted to the five cylinder engine of its range brothers, but added a turbo that allowed him to increase the power from 170 to 225 CV. Of course, it also improved torque and gave it a much more aggressive character. Later they made some adjustments so that, as standard, this block was capable of taking out 250 CV.

Be that as it may, this unit has been clearly modified. According to the guys from AutoTopNL, specialists in filming cars at full speed on sections of the Autobahn with no speed limit, the protagonist of the video generates nothing less than 480 hp and 600 Nm. That is, they have practically doubled their power and torque.

In the video we can see several things. The first, the enormous speed with which the orange needle of the speedometer is lying down in the clockwise direction. The acceleration it shows, especially in fourth gear, is amazing. For example, at 1:37 of the video it accelerates fully from about 170 km/h and takes only a few seconds to get up to 250, with the tachometer at 7.000 revs. In fifth gear it calmly exceeds the 260 km/h mark.

As a curiosity, it is also striking that the driver seems to have certain problems in some gear changes, especially when entering fifth. Nor does it seem that the steering is the most precise in the world, giving the sensation of having some slack... In any case, what a beast!
