Volvo has taken an important leap in terms of quality and luxury of its vehicles with the launch of the Volvo S90 and the family version V90. As you well know, one of the markets where there is a high demand for luxury vehicles is China; and the Swedish company does not want to lose its opportunity to succeed in the Asian country.
Now just reported that to move Volvo S90 production to China, from where it will be exported to a large number of markets around the world, including Europe and the United States. Volvo officials say this move will help it reach its goal of selling 800.000 cars each year by 2020.
Taking advantage of the rise of luxury cars in the Chinese market, the Swedish company has announced the production of the model in Daqing and the launch of the Volvo S90 and a Volvo S90 Excellence; both will be exported from there to the rest of the world. The former is identical to the large sedan marketed in Europe, while the latter, the Volvo S90 Excellence, is still more luxurious and comfortable for the occupant of the right rear seat.
The S90 Excellence is externally similar to a conventional long-wheelbase S90; but the most striking changes appear in the cabin. Inside, luxury has been increased by installing a new console and eliminating the passenger seat, installing a large infotainment screen in its place. There is also a space to store shoes, adjustable footrests, folding work tables, a refrigerated compartment to cool or heat drinks and a panoramic roof, among others.
Mechanically the Volvo S90 Excellence is offered with the plug-in hybrid T8 engine, while the "normal" S90 will be available in its T8 variant, but also with the T4 and T5 petrol engines; although its prices for the Asian country have not yet been made official.
Both the Volvo S90 and S90 Excellence include semi-autonomous driving assistance up to 130 km/h, automatic braking with detection of large animals, four-zone climate control with the CleanZone air quality system and connectivity through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Daqing plant will start production of the Volvo S90 in November, while production of the Volvo S90 Excellence will start in 2017.
