El Volvo XC40 Recharge is first electric vehicle put up for sale by the Swedish firm. With it they take the first step so that their entire range is ecological and zero emissions, although the hybrid versions were already part of their portfolio for a few years. Nevertheless, the development and tuning has been very measured, and you have the answer in the test that my colleague Diego Ávila did some time ago. He is at the height of his rivals...
Yes because the XC40 Recharge will put the Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Mercedes-EQA on the ropes. Not because it belongs to the same market segment, but because it has weighty technical arguments. One of the most notable has to do with the power of its drivetrain and the benefits it provides. Now, when an "access" version arrives in the range, we know its prices for the Spanish market. And yes, they are premium SUVs.
The Volvo XC40 Recharge will be sold in three trim levels…
The marketing of the Volvo XC40 Recharge, in our country, will revolve around three possible finishes. From smallest to largest endowment they are called: Core, Plus and Pro. The first, access, will be standard and does not imply any extra cost for the powertrain we choose. To make the jump to the intermediate, Plus, we must pay 1.923 euros which, that is, is little for what it adds. Finally, the Pro version is 5.713 euros more expensive, although it is the most complete.
The endowment of the core version according to the brand it is for connected and sustainable driving. Starting from this base, add elements such as Touring Chassis, led headlights, Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Aid, Oncoming Lane Mitigation or Road Sign Information. For its part, the plus iteration adds standard equipment and additional comfort and control functions such as a 9-inch touch screen, 12-inch digital cockpit or light and rain sensors.
Ultimately we have the pro version, the most complete and technological. In fact, Volvo defines it as: The most complete level of equipment to enjoy the most comfortable and connected experience. Among the gadgets that it includes we can mention 360° camera, assisted parking system, rear and side, BLIS and Cross Traffic Alert or Rear Collision Warning. All in all, the list of options is at the level of any premium firm.
Prices and versions for Spain of the XC40 Recharge
Taking into account the generous equipment possibilities of the Volvo XC40 Recharge, we must talk about its mechanical offer. The access version with 231 horsepower and front-wheel drive (FWD) is available with all three trim levels. For its part, the most powerful with 408 hp and all-wheel drive (AWD) is only associated with the two most complete finishes. In both cases, the estimated average autonomy exceeds 400 kilometers.
Being so, the price range that the Swedish firm asks for its electric all-road seems fair to us. To them should be subtracted the possible discounts that may be in force at the time of purchase. Therefore, if we approach the commercial network and negotiate, we can get it cheaper. In any case, it seems to us a more than reasonable purchase and more if we take into account that it is electric and that, now, it looks face to face with its Bavarian rivals.
