We have what could be the new 2018 Nissan Silvia!

15 years of waiting It is what we have had to put up with since the end of the marketing of the last of the Silvia. This time seems to have made Nissan managers reconsider to put the concept back on the table. The success of its predecessor, the Nissan Silvia S15, has prompted them to study the possibility of re-manufacturing a model that lives up to the expectations of model fans.

Thanks to the publication of a Japanese media outlet, we have found what could be the new generation of the new Nissan Silvia. It promises what we all expected, rear-wheel drive, two doors, excellent chassis tuning, modern and striking design; and the most desired, a purely “made in Japan” racing behavior that we so longed for. Do you want to know more?…

The latest generation of this legendary model dates back to the version marketed between 1999 and 2002; the Nissan Silvia S15 . that car of rear wheel drive supposed to be the seventh generation of this wonderful coupé. A model focused on purely offering a sporty character, distancing itself from the luxuries offered by its rivals. Its greatest asset was a more compact body size that placed it closer to the S13 generation.

The S15 was marketed with two different engines. One of them, atmospheric that yielded a power of 165 CV and another with turbo. This last developed a power of 250CV with a maximum torque of 274 Nm. Both could be associated with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The rigidity of the chassis was improved with respect to the S13 and S14, and the braking system and the suspensions were improved and incorporated a helical-type self-locking.

Nissan Silvia, the "Ave Fenix" of the brand?

The end of the Silvia lineage came in the year 2000, when strict Japanese anti-pollution regulations made it unfeasible to keep these models on the market. Because of him, many of the models that we remember so eagerly to this day had to pass on to a better life. One of them, the Silvia, due to its nature, could not escape its fate either. A) Yes, in August 2002, its production was concluded.

However, today with the improvement of the technique and the birth of compact hybrid propulsion systems, the possibility of the reappearance of this long-awaited model is being considered. In fact, the Nissan 370 Z (and before it, the 350 Z) have as their mission keep the Silvia spirit alive (your discussion may lead to controversy); or so was Nissan's declaration of intent...

The concept exists and with it we can say that possibly share chassis with the Infinity Q50; being a variation of it. However, positioning him in a somewhat more modest category is proposed, which will place him in front of rivals like the Mazda MX-5, or the Toyota GT-86. With this possible advent, we would have the Japanese firms monopolizing a segment that the German or American brands have completely abandoned.

About the design, it is still not entirely clear as there are many versions of what this model could be like. But everything indicates that they will opt for a front whose design scheme develops from the "V-Motion". With this, it could present a rear part that shares elements with the next generation of the Nissan 370Z. As a whole, we would be talking about a model with a very aerodynamic front and marked lines that provide it with its own identity compared to the rest of the firm's models.

As for the mechanical part, we will have to forget about the traditional 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engines or the 1.8-liter turbocharged… According to some rumours, it is expected that a variant of 1.6 liters of cubic capacity associated with a 6-speed manual gearbox. If we are not mistaken too much, we would be talking about the 1.6 DIG-T that the Pulsar and several models of the Japanese house already mount. This would imply the incorporation of the smallest engine ever mounted on a Silvia since the beginning of its commercialization, in 1968.

Hopefully it will be the first case of a street car that is the same as its prototype. Very cool, let's hope it doesn't tend to downsizing.
