Jeep Renegade - Technical specifications, tests, finishes, prices and more

Jeep is a historic in the off-road segment. Since its inception, the American manufacturer has specialized in this market, although fashions change. Today Jeep has had to move to the SUV market. And it has done it with a head, entering directly into the most popular niche of all, the B-SUV, where its representative, the Jeep Renegade, is developing quite well.

The first Renegade to hit the market did so in 2014, at the Geneva Motor Show. At that time, the American manufacturer showed us a proposal that combined the typical characteristics of the brand with the new fashion that is sweeping sales. An off-road-looking SUV that has certain unique features.

Jeep is part of the FCA (FIAT-Chrysler Automobiles) conglomerate. That alliance has caused the Renegade to have the dubious honor of being the first model of the American house to be designed and manufactured outside the United States. However, this has not been an impediment for the little one of the house, who in 2019 presented a facelift corresponding to the second commercial cycle.

Technical characteristics of the Jeep Renegade

We have already said that the Jeep Renegade is an Italian-American mix. In order not to create a product from scratch, the Yankees made use of the SGMA platform (Small Global Modular Architecture). A structure that is used within the cluster for other models, such as the FIAT 500X, which we could label as the twin brother of the Jeep.

The Renegade has exterior measurements for the segment it is targeting, the B-SUV. 4,23 meters long, 1,8 meters wide and 1,66 meters high. Its wheelbase of 2,57 meters gives it good interior space, although we are not talking about the best levels in the category. In terms of cargo volume 351 liters minimum capacity and 1.297 if we maximize that capacity.

It's one of the few B-SUVs that can tackle relatively rough terrain. Although I have all-wheel drive variants and electronic differential lock, the most common will be to see the Renegade with a simple drive scheme but with different settings, including several offroad driving programs.

Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Jeep Renegade

Over time, the Jeep Renegade has been expanding its mechanical range in order to adapt to the increasingly demanding European regulations on emissions and pollution. The range is structured in two microhybrid gasoline mechanics and two plug-in hybrids. The latter are the most recent of the family.

After leaving diesel engines behind, due to performance, the offer starts with the versions 1.5 eHybrid. They have a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine that is associated with a 48-volt auxiliary electrical system with the DGT ECO label. It develops 130 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque.. Management is derived from a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that always sends power to the front axle.

Focusing on the most efficient unit of all, the Renegade 4xe, part of the base 1.3 Turbo four-cylinder petrol engine. Attached to it is an electric motor located at the rear and a lithium-ion battery with 11 kWh capacity. The set develops a maximum of 240 horsepower and 260 Nm of torque with an approved electric autonomy of 49 kilometers. It is certified with the DGT ZERO label.

Equipment of the Jeep Renegade

The equipment and finishes available for the Jeep Renegade in the Spanish market are structured around five versions. From least to greatest technological and security endowment are: Longitude, Limited, Upland and Trailhawk, the last two only available with plug-in hybrid mechanics.

The Renegade's equipment is not the most complete and exclusive on the market, but it is true that it has all the necessary and essential elements for the routine. Elements that promise to make life on board more comfortable and connected thanks to the UConnect services that includes a five-inch touch screen from the base finish.

But there is much more to choose from. Partially digital instrument cluster, LED headlights, sunroof, navigation, connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, multimedia system with screen up to 8,4 inches, parking cameras, dual-zone climate control and keyless entry and start, among many other details. It is also worth mentioning a high security endowment, although as we will see later, not sufficiently nourished.

Euro NCAP crash tests assess the safety of every car that is for sale in Europe. Today the factor of driving assistants weighs heavily on the value scale. Bearing this in mind the Jeep Renegade has to settle for three out of five stars. Despite showing remarkable levels of safety for adult and child occupants, 82 and 84 out of 100 respectively, the results in pedestrian protection and assistant operation give it that low score.

The Jeep Renegade of Km 0 and second hand

El Jeep Renegade It is the first all urban road manufactured by the American firm. Despite this, it has become a sales success, bringing the brand closer to a larger audience. The depreciation of the Renegade is situated in a 32%, being in the average of its segment. This data is achieved by the good image that the brand projects about its product and the good offroad skills that the model has.

In the second-hand and occasion markets we find a good assortment of units with a minimum price close to 12.000 euros for units of 2015 and 2016. In the Km 0 channel the offer is not as complete. Most of the units that are for sale correspond to post restyling models, although there are previous units with succulent offers.

Jeep Renegade hits quicksand. The European B-SUV segment is on its way to becoming the most popular in the market. Its sales grow every month and that makes brands look good on bidding in that market. There are many rivals that we can mention, some of them are: Hyundai Kona, Volkswagen-T-Cross, Nissan Juke, Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008, Skoda Kamiq y SEAT Arona among others. They are all rivals for size and price.

Jeep is committed to offering the Renegade at a competitive price in an increasingly tight segment. His powerful forms and off-road capabilities have helped him rack up a good number of orders. The Jeep Renegade has a starting price of 32.100 euros for the 1.5 e-Hybrid variant with Longitude trim. On the opposite side of the scale is the Renegade 4xe PHEV with Trailhawk finish, with a starting price of 46.550 euros. No offers or promotions in all cases.
