Sedans are becoming more and more obsolete, but not their largest format. Representation sedans are the most exclusive niche that we can refer to. There are hardly a handful of models on the table, and one of them is the Maserati Quattroporte. The largest Italian sedan that is for sale. The most luxurious model offered by those from Modena, even above the Maserati Levante.
It is the oldest model of Maserati. To find the beginnings of the Quattroporte you have to go back to 1963. Since its inception it has been one of the fastest sedans in the world. Already in 1963 it was capable of reaching a top speed of 230 km/h. Throughout these years, up to six editions have been presented, each one of them more performance and spectacular than the previous one.
The latest generation of the Maserati Quattroporte made an appearance at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show. The sixth version was presented completely transformed. Located in segment F, the Quattroporte has undergone a major overhaul in 2016 and 2020. Slight design changes coupled with a major introduction of new systems and technology, something where it has always lost out to its German rivals.
Technical characteristics of the Maserati Quattroporte
Although currently the FCA Group no longer has the Chrysler Group as a business partner, when the sixth generation Maserati Quattroporte was presented they were sales partners. Under its body hides a platform developed from the LLC structure of the American conglomerate, albeit with considerable modifications. It is the same structure that we can also see in the Maserati Ghibli.
We are facing the largest saloon in the house, and that leads us to considerable external measures. 5,26 meters long, 1,95 meters wide and 1,48 meters high. To these dimensions must be added a wheelbase of 3,17 meters. A battle that allows you to offer a spacious interior for a maximum of five passengers, where the next three will enjoy traveling in very spacious seats.
The passenger compartment is not the only thing that offers dimensions of generous size. The cargo trunk formalizes a minimum volume of 530 liters. A slightly higher measure than that offered by some of its rivals in the segment. Where it does not stand out is in weight, offering a minimum of 1.948 kilograms on the scale. 2.000 kilograms for diesel.
Maserati Quattroporte mechanical range and gearboxes
At the beginning of 2021, the mechanical range of the Maserati Quattroporte is reduced to a single version, officially called Quattroporte Modena Q4. It consists of a turbocharged V6 gasoline engine made of aluminum with 2.979 cubic centimeters of displacement. It is mated to an eight-speed torque converter automatic gearbox that distributes all power to all four wheels through an all-wheel drive system.
Official data announces a power of 430 horsepower at 5.750 revolutions and a maximum torque of 580 Nm between 2.250 and 4.000 revolutions. In terms of performance, the Quattroporte is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4,8 seconds with a top speed of 288 kilometers per hour. As it does not have any electrified support system, in Spain it is approved with the ECO label from the General Directorate of Traffic.
Equipment of the Maserati Quattroporte
Moving to its interior, the Maserati Quattroporte offers a luxurious environment. The Italians have used high quality materials. Merino leather, wood or carbon fiber render an interior that conveys a lot of perceived quality to customers. The fits are good, although the assembly process is surpassed by English craftsmanship and German precision.
The Quattroporte range is fragmented into the same structure as the mechanics. Inside of her we have three additional levels of equipment and configuration: Base, GranLusso and GranSport. Unlike other models, such as the Maserati Gran Turismo, the jump between levels does not imply major alterations in the general appearance of the saloon. Yes, there are particular details for each edition, especially for the Trophy level, but in general terms the design is the same.
When it comes to equipment, Maserati seeks to bring something different. Bearing this in mind, the Italian cannot match many of his rivals. But it is worth mentioning the presence of: four-zone climate control, heated rear seats, rear camera, sunroof, browser, connectivity for mobile devices, and multimedia system with an 8-inch screen. Also worth mentioning is extensive safety equipment and driving aids.

The Km 0 and second-hand Maserati Quattroporte
Given the extensive experience that the Maserati Quattroporte has in the markets, the list of models for sale in the second-hand and occasion channels is relatively extensive. Although its sales have always been very low, over the years it has gained a reputation for exclusivity and sportsmanship. They are all rivals of the Italian, although the Maserati stands out for the exclusivity that its low production gives it and for a slightly lower asking price than many of its rivals. Although, on the contrary, it is not capable of matching some of the equipment characteristics of the German models.
