El Jaguar XE It is the model that came to the market to solve the absolute failure that was the marketing of the extinct X-Type. The English firm decided to delve once again into the popular midsize sedan segment when it became part of the Tata Motors brand.

To do this, they developed from scratch a modern modular platform, called D7A, composed almost entirely of aluminium. With this they managed to reduce weight, improve dynamic behavior and lower the center of gravity of the model. At the same time, it manages to maintain ideal dimensions for segment D.

The model was designed by Ian Callum following the aesthetic language that inaugurated the Jaguar XF. The final version was presented at the Paris Motor Show in 2014, reaching the market a year later. In 2020 it receives a facelift which is mainly focused on minor cosmetic tweaks and a major tech update.

Technical characteristics of the Jaguar XE

The Jaguar XE is built on a modern modular platform made almost entirely of aluminium. Its aluminum monocoque chassis is manufactured using a new gluing and riveting technique that is unique in its segment. This scalar architecture is used in other Jaguar-Land Rover models. such as Jaguar F-Pace and Land Rover Velar.

In the particular case of the XE, the platform has been adapted to meet the measurement standards of the D segment. It measures 4,68 meters long, 1,85 meters wide and 1,41 meters high. These dimensions, together with a wheelbase of 2,83 metres, give it average roominess in its segment, since the design of its bodywork limits the space in the rear seats.

In any case, in its cabin it is better for four people to travel than five. Besides, the capacity of its trunk, with 291 liters, It is also not one of the widest, so space is not one of its strengths. Unlike other rivals, Jaguar does not offer a family body for sale with which to gain cargo space.

Jaguar XE mechanical range and gearboxes

When machining the Jaguar XE, the English manufacturer has opted for the most modern range of Ingenium engines. These are four-cylinder, two-liter blocks that have different power levels, and that, thanks to the 2020 update, introduce MHEV systems for the first time with which to certify the ECO label and reduce consumption.

The mechanical portfolio starts with the only diesel variant. It's about unity D200 Mild-Hybrid with 204 horsepower at 4.250 revolutions and a torque of 430 Nm between 1.750 and 2.000 engine revolutions. As standard, it sends the power to the rear axle, although an all-wheel drive scheme can be optionally mounted. This unit is always associated with an eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

The gasoline engine division does not suffer any variation. The range starts with the P250 with 250 horsepower and 365 Nm of torque. It has a two-liter turbocharged block that cannot include any electrified system that allows it to offer the DGT ECO label. There are also no plug-in versions with the ZERO label, which is a handicap compared to its most direct rivals.

Jaguar XE Equipment

English manufacturers know how to add a touch of class and elegance to the interiors of their vehicles. When composing the passenger compartment of the Jaguar XE, care has been taken to maintain that classic essence. Well-chosen materials and careful fits give passengers a feeling of high quality.

The most substantial change in the 2020 renewal affects the equipment. The range is divided into three structures: S, SE and HSE. In addition to an improvement in the technological load, the two models differ from each other by truly unique aesthetics. As standard it offers the R-Dynamic package that offers a sportier touch with its own bumpers and wheels.

As far as equipment is concerned, we can find a long list of elements, part of them focused on helping the driver and improving occupant safety. It is also worth mentioning others such as: multimedia system with 10-inch screen, digital instrument panel, Head-Up Display, keyless entry and start, digital climate control module, connectivity for mobile devices, heated front seats, parking camera and much more.

Jaguar XE according to Euro NCAP

The Jaguar XE passed the demanding Euro NCAP crash tests in 2015 achieving the highest possible score, 5 stars. The score obtained was as follows. Upon impact, the percentage of protection for adult and child occupants was 92% and 82%, respectively. In the event of a pedestrian being run over, it obtained 81% protection. Finally, in terms of driving aids, it achieved 82%. Those same values are still valid in the 2020 unit as there is no change in the structure of the vehicle.

The Jaguar XE of Km 0 and second hand

El Jaguar XE It hit the market in 2015, revolutionizing the range of the English manufacturer. With it, the image of the brand improved substantially, making it reach more customers. The depreciation of the model is located in the 31%, being a couple of points above that of its rivals.

The most affordable units for sale of all are those that date from the year 2015. Those first units that hit the market are now for sale for an approximate price of 15.000 euros with diesel mechanics of 180 horses and more than 100 thousand accumulated kilometers. The Km 0 channel does not show many units for sale due to the low demand for the product and the change to the 2020 update.

Jaguar XE rivals

The Jaguar XE falls into the D segment. It brings together the main medium-sized sedans on the market, but in this case, the English model is aligned with those of a premium cut. The main rivals against which the XE has to compete are: Audi A4, BMW Serie 3, Volvo S60, Alfa Romeo Giulia, Mazda6 y Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Compared to them, it offers a different point of view and a more exclusive approach due to its lower sales volume. On the other hand, you cannot fight with the same arguments in terms of mechanics and bodywork.
