Ford recalls 38 Mustangs for brake problems

One of the biggest headaches that a car brand can have has to do with the reliability of its cars. Neither wants them to fail, but developing a model is a really complicated and expensive task. So complex is the process that the engineers have to play to meet the specifications while not ostensibly increasing the budget. Hence, failures occur and review calls.

This situation affects, to a greater or lesser extent, all the firms present in the sector. Nevertheless, not all breakdowns are equally problematic or dangerous. Ford is one of the manufacturers that is seeing how the "goblins of the assembly line" take center stage. For proof, there is the official statement issued by the NHTSA in which it gives a good account of the 2020 Mustang braking system failure.

Ford chose the wrong brake pedal material and it can break

According to the press release, the brake pedal bracket Ford Mustang 2020 it can break during a sudden stop. This fault would only be present in the models included in the 2020 model year, so the previous ones would not be affected. Also, only the units equipped with automatic transmission they would have received a defective support. Therefore, Mustangs equipped with a manual gearbox are free of it.

It looks like, the cause of the problem would be in the material and design of the support that Ford would have chosen. Everything indicates that the oval firm had replaced the nylon of the previous supports with polypropylene. In this way, they would reduced the resistance of the set making it more unstable. The result: that in case of emergency braking, with strong pressure on the pedal, it could break and lose control.

The NHTSA has reported that Ford began using faulty brake pedal and bracket March 4, 2019. Its use has been extended until August 13 of this year, so the number of affected units would be 38 thousand. However, the brand ensures that not aware of any accident or injury related to this problem. Also, you haven't identified the units by chassis (VIN), so we don't know what they are.

Finally we must mention the scope of this recall. At the moment it is limited to the USA but we cannot forget that the Mustang is assembled for the whole world in the factory in Michigan. Therefore, we can imagine that units arriving in Europe could also suffer from this problem. If you have one and you doubt whether or not it is affected, it is best to go through the official workshop and find out. The only thing you can lose is a couple of hours.
