Through an online press conference offered by Jeep Spain we have been able to learn about the main news and features of the renewed Jeep Grand Cherokee which is already available at Spanish dealers.
In addition to a successful facelift, we find among the main novelties of the new Jeep Grand Cherokee a eight-speed automatic gearbox, which improves consumption and performance, as well as the new Summit finish at the top of the range.
design changes
The Jeep Grand Cherokee, launched in 2011, receives many changes, many of them visual. His image does not change radically, but it is modernized without leaving its predecessor outdated. At the front, we find a smaller grille, accompanied by a new, more enveloping bumper that joins the bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights as standard throughout the range of the off-roader.
At the rear, the new spoiler and the LED taillights stand out, while if we go into the passenger compartment we will see a new multifunction steering wheel with paddles and a new gear selector for the automatic gearbox, much smaller and more modern than the previous labyrinth. The clock box incorporates a large fully customizable 7″ TFT screen, while the central console is dominated by the 8.4″ UConnect system from which many aspects of the vehicle are managed (radio, GPS, air conditioning, trip computer...). New upholstery and a huge panoramic sunroof called Command View are available.
mechanical improvements
The Jeep Grand Cherokee receives as the main novelty for the entire range a new eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox, now with the possibility of shifting on the steering wheel thanks to some small and discreet cams located at the rear. In addition, the mapping of the 3.0 diesel engine and the most powerful variant has changed, before with 240 CV it becomes 250. Despite all this, consumption has been reduced by 10% and emissions by 9%. The 190CV continues to be offered as an access variant.
Jeep essence, after all
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is an off-roader. Proof of this is its all-wheel drive with reduction gear and its Quadra-Trac and Quadra-Drive systems, depending on the trim level. In addition, also depending on the finish, it is equipped air suspension with variable height and limited-slip rear differential. The Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been recognized for its off-road capabilities, and this is no less. The brand estimates that around 15% of the model's customers make very regular off-road use.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee offers good off-road dimensions, with approach and departure angles of 26,3 and 26,5º respectively, while the ventral angle is 18,8º, which could be improved. This with the traditional suspension, with the pneumatics and the Quadra Drive system things improve a lot. The input and output become 35,8 and 29,5º, while the ventral improves to a reasonable 23,5º. Are angles very similar to those of a Jeep Wrangler, although with less suspension travel.
